Hey there! I recently visited Gaetgol Ecological Park in Siheung, and it was quite an experience. The park, formerly a vast salt farm, has been transformed into a stunning landscape with expansive flower fields, making it a perfect spot for walks and bike rides, especially in the autumn.
One interesting aspect is the park’s history as a saltern in Korea. The transformation from a salt farm to a beautiful ecological park adds a unique layer to the place. The park offers numerous photo spots, making it ideal for families and those with pets. The walking paths are well-designed, providing a good course for a leisurely stroll.
While the park is free to enter, parking can be a bit tricky on weekends, with a potential 30-minute wait. Inside, the facilities are vast and well-organized, making it a great destination for families with kids. However, I found that winter might not be the best time to visit, as there are fewer activities, and the weather can be quite chilly.
Despite that, my visit was on a weekday morning, and it was serene with hardly anyone around. I can imagine that in the summer, the park comes alive with activities and families enjoying the outdoors. It’s worth noting that the Wave Observatory, featured in the Korean drama “Encounter/Boyfriend,” is around a 10-minute walk from the parking lot and provides an excellent vantage point for some Instagram-worthy shots.
Overall, Gaetgol Ecological Park is a beautiful, well-maintained space, offering a mix of nature, history, and recreational opportunities. I even documented my visit on my YouTube channel, so feel free to check it out if you want a sneak peek into this hidden gem.
