I recently visited Kaelin’s 80/20 and had a mixed experience. The restaurant’s history and unique offerings make it an interesting spot. The claim to fame as the birthplace of the first cheeseburger adds a cool touch to the dining experience.
The fried pickles were a hit, but the portion size was a bit disappointing. The ribeye burger with an egg on top was flavorful but challenging to eat. The BBQ brisket and shrimp étouffée were standout dishes. However, the service was friendly but a bit slow, likely due to the restaurant being busy on a Saturday.
The ambiance was lively, with clean and bright decor. The homemade ice cream and variety of flavors sounded tempting, but I didn’t try them this time. The prices, particularly $8.75 for a milkshake, felt a bit steep.
Overall, despite some hiccups, I enjoyed the restaurant and its Southern dishes. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the unique menu items make it worth considering for another visit. If you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth a stop, especially for the fried pickles and the historical charm.
