Cave Hill Cemetery is indeed recognized as an arboretum. The cemetery, spanning 296 acres, hosts a diverse collection of large old trees, including a 9′ diameter ginkgo, specimen quality oaks, magnolias, bald cypress, black cherry, zelkova, tuliptrees, bays, hydrangeas, and more. The cemetery is currently listed as a level two arboretum, with plans to achieve level three accreditation, making it one of only five cemeteries in the world with that status.
The arboretum status adds to the overall experience for visitors by providing a serene and picturesque setting with a variety of trees and plant life. Visitors can enjoy not only the historical significance of the cemetery but also the natural beauty of the landscape. The well-maintained grounds, diverse flora, and peaceful streams contribute to the unique and meaningful atmosphere of Cave Hill Cemetery.
